The ownership of Nordita is shared between KTH and Stockholm University (SU), and even if as a Nordita staff member you are employed by KTH, you can have an account at SU. Actually, up until 2010, all Nordita staff members had their primary computer account with SU. Since all new Nordita staff members will only be given KTH accounts, and others are encouraged to move to KTH accounts gradually, the information below is mainly of interest only to those who have not yet made the move.
In the SU account is included:
An SU account is created by sending a request to the SU computing department. This is done by each department's SUKAT responsible, which for Nordita is Hans Mühlen. If you have an SU account, your username and password will typically not be the same as for your KTH account.
When your SU account is created, you will be issued with a password that is sent to you in an ordinary mail. For security reasons these passwords are random sequences of characters. You might want to change your password to one which is still secure but easier to remember.
If the new password you suggest is considered too simple, you will be forced to select another, untill the new password is accepted.
To be considered secure enough, the password needs to fulfill the following criteria. The password must have:
The password must not:
If you have forgotten your SU account credentials, you need to go in person to the SU Helpdesk to have them reset the password. The helpdesk is on the main SU campus in Frescati, in house D (one of the blue buildings, just across the entrance of the main library) on floor 4. Opening hours are Monday-Friday 9.00-16.30. Bring an ID.
You can access your mail account via the SU Webmail at https://mail.su.se (there is a link to the webmail from the general administrative page http://mitt.su.se)
If you prefer to read your mail via a mail client program installed on your local machine, such as Thunderbird, Mac Mail, Pine or Outlook, first you need to give the client instructions on where to fetch incoming mails and where to send outgoing mails. This is done in different ways for different clients, but in all cases the following parameters characterizing your accound need to be entered:
See Configure Email Clients for instructions on how to do make these settings in some popular mail clients.
If you prefer to read the mails sent to your SU mail address from some other mailbox (eg. a gmail account or other institutional account) you can ''redirect'' all incoming SU mails to that other account.
If instead you want mail sent to another of your mail addresses redirected to your SU account, you need to check with your other mail provider on how to change the settings of your other account.
