Nordita has three multipurpose machines for printing, copying, and scanning provided by Stockholm University, one in each printer room. The machine in printer room 6333 also has fax capabilities. All machines have paper trays for A4 and A3 paper sizes.
The printomat printer in Nordita South has a finisher with booklet folding capabilities, the one in Nordita West has no finisher, and the one in printer room 6333 has a finisher with hole punch.
You log in by holding your card over the card reader which is placed in front of the machine.
If the machine is in economy mode it will wake up when you log in. Otherwise you can activate the machine by pressing the smaller green button in the top right corner of the control panel. If the machine is awake you will see a message in Swedish asking you to log in using your University card. Also log in again if you see this message on the display screen:
You will automatically be logged out after a minute or so of inactivity. You can also log out by holding your card over the card reader again.
For printing the machines are connected to the SU Printomat system, which is a "follow-me-print" system. You send documents to a common print queue, and can then go to any Printomat printer at Nordita (or elsewhere at AlbaNova or SU) and have it printed. To print you first need to install the Printomat diver on your computer.
To print, first log in to a printomat machine, then press the PRINT button to the left on the control panel.
If you have sent one or more documents for printing, you will see a list of pending documents in the display screen. Each line shows the document title, and the cost for Nordita for this printout.
To print one of several listed documents, press that line and then the [PRINT] button at the bottom of the screen. To print all pending documents, either press all lines or the [SELECT ALL] button, and then the print button.
There is also a [DELETE] button for selected documents you don't want to print. Note that the list of pending documents will automatically be cleared after some time, typically one day, so if you submit items for printing and then forget to print them, they will automatically be removed.
The way documents are printed is regulated by default settings set centrally for the whole Printomat system at SU, nothing we can adapt on the three Nordita printers. In the upper right-hand side on the display screen there is an [OPTION] button which will take you to a screen where you can adapt number of copies, toggle simplex/duplex printing, and toggle color/black&white printing, but that's it. Other settings for the printout should be done on your computer before submitting the print job.
To scan, first log in to a printomat machine, then press the SCAN button to the left on the control panel.
Scanned documents will be sent to one or more SU e-mail addresses. There are no options for scanning to USB or to a network folder, or to send scans to e-mail addresses outside Stockholm University (like Nordita addresses).
The simplest option is to send the scan to your own SU e-mail address. First make sure the [TO] button to the upper right is selected (yellow). Then make sure the [FREQUENT] button is selected, and press the big square button in the center of the screen with your SU username on it to select yourself as recipient. Your SU e-mail address should now be displayed. Then press the big green start button on the right-hand side of the control panel to start the scan. If there is a red lamp in the start button, you haven't selected a recipient address.
If you have put your original on the flatbed scanner, there will be a message "Place next original within 15 sec, then press the Start key. If none, press [#]." displayed to allow you to add more originals to be scanned or to send the file.
There is no confirmation that the scan has been completed or the file sent. You can get a list of completed scans with the [SCANNED FILE STATUS] button at the top of the screen.
You can also select [CC] and [BCC] recipients of the scanned file by pressing the corresponding buttons. Buttons [TO] and [TO] at the bottom of the screen allow you to prettify the body text and subject line of the mail with the attached scan, otherwise the default subject is "Message from 'V9513400961'", where the strange number is the serial number of the machine.
In the upper left corner of the display screen there is a [SCAN SETTINGS] button which brings you to a screen where you can override scan defaults auto colour/grayscale detect, resolution 200 dpi, and auto scan size detect.
Under the [SCAN SETTINGS] button on the main scanning screen there are more settings, for [SCAN DENSITY] (lighter or darker scanning), [ORIGINAL FEED TYPE], and [SEND FILE TYPE / NAME] (like PDF or JPEG).
To copy, first log in to a printomat machine, then press the COPY button to the left on the control panel.
The copying display screen is just as cluttered with settings as on any copying machine. In the column to the left you can change default for color/grayscale, original quality and scan density settings. In the main part of the screen you select paper tray, zoom, multiple-page copying rules, booklet creation, sort order and whether or not to staple (or punch holes, where available). The buttons at the bottom give more fine-grained options for some of these setting groups.
As always, you select the number of copies on the keypad to the right on the control panel. The number displays in the top right corner of the display screen. Reset the number with the red button next to the Start button.
The fax option for the printomat in room 6333 has not yet been activated. Ask Hans if you need to receive or send a fax.
