SCANNING GUIDE (BROTHER)

This describes how you can scan documents on the Brother MFC-8370 machine in the Nordita main building. (There is also a Xerox scanner in the Nordita astro building).

Documents are scanned to a PDF file which will be placed on a USB memory stick that you have to provide.

Scan to USB Memory Stick

1. Insert the USB memory stick in the slot on the left side of the front of the machine.
2. Press the button [SCAN] under the display window on the front panel
You should now see "Scan:Select" on the display screen
3. Press the [DOWN] button to the right of the display screen until you see the message "Scan to USB" on the display screen
4. Press the [OK] button (the display should say "Start Scan")
5. Press the [OK] button again (the display should say "Press Start")
6. Now place the document to be scanned, either on the glass under the document feeder, or in the document feeder. In both cases the orientation is: document text face down and top edge to the left.
7. Press the blue [START] button to the right on the front panel, and wait for the scan to complete
8. If you placed the document on the glass, you will be prompted in the display window if you want to scan more documents (then press [1] on the numeric keypad) or if the scan is complete (then press [2])
9. Remove the USB memory stick

Retrieve your scanned document

10. Insert the USB memory stick into your computer (how this is done varies between computer models and operating system)
11. View the contents of your USB memory stick. The scanned document should be in a folder called BROTHER.
