The following rules apply both to calls on fixed-line telephones and to using our fax machine.
Just dial the last four digits of the number.
First dial two zeros, then the area code without the leading zero, and then the number.
First dial four zeros, then the country code without leading zero, then the local number.
A telephone set is assigned a specific 4-digit extension by a login procedure. You can only receive calls to a phone in a logged-in state, but you can make outgoing calls regardless if the phone is logged in or not.
To log in with a four-digit extension 8nnn, dial (where of course you should replace "8nnn" with the actual extension):

You can see which state the phone is by looking at the display.
Several telephone services have menus where you select an option by pressing a digit key. Curiously enough, this doesn't work in the default state of the Stockholm University telephones.
To switch to "tone dialing" mode, first dial the number, and when you are prompted to make a menu selection, first press 9 and then continue with the menu selection.
The telephone returns to default mode after each call, so you need to repeat the procedure for each call that requires tone dialing.
