MOBILE PHONE SETTINGS

A few Nordita staff members have work mobile phones with mobile phone subscriptions paid for by Nordita. These have been bought through KTH or Stockholm University from AllTele, who use the Telia mobile phone network.

See Mobiltelefoni, datapaket & mobilt bredband (in Swedish) for a price list and some setting instructions, and (in Swedish) for a settings summary and instructions for iPhone and Android. The necessary settings are summarized below.

If you have a mobile phone you might want to have your work phone number redirected to your mobile instead of to a fixed-line phone in your office. This is an optional service called Mobile Exchange (MEX) which is described elsewhere.

AllTele APN Settings

The following has nothing to do with whether your cell phone is connected to the MEX service, it is only about enabling your mobile phone to connect to the internet. Note that the instructions below are only valid when you try to connect to the internet from within Sweden.

STEP 1: Determine Which Internet Package You Subscribe To

In the the settings section of your phone you need to enter the APN values corresponding to your subscription, both for Mobile/Cellular Data Network Connectivity as well as for MMS. The APN values may differ depending on which AllTele subscription you have for your mobile.

There are two different types of internet connectivity support in the AllTele subscriptions from KTH or SU, one called "Datapaket" and one called "Mobilt bredband". The settings for "Datapaket" also vary depending on whether your subscription was ordered before or after November 2012.

Ask Anne Jifält if you are uncertain which type of subscription you have. Most Nordita users with cell phone subscriptions from KTH/SU have a 1GB Datapaket purchased before November 2012. Try this first if you can't get further information.

Make a note of the APN values for Cellular Data and for MMS that correspond to your subscription. You will need to enter them into the settings of your mobile, as described next.

STEP 2: Enter Settings in Your Mobile

Details on how to edit APN settings vary between mobile devices. A few hints:

Android

(1)  First go to:
English   Settings ? Wireless & Network ? Mobile Networks ­­ ? Access Point Names
Swedish   Inställningar ? Trådlöst & nätverk ? Mobila nätverk ­­ ? Åtkomstpunktsnamn

(2)  Click on   Menu ? New APN   (or Meny ? Ny APN)   and enter the following fields:

Name (Namn) Internet
APN (Åtkomstnamn) [enter the APN for Cellular Data value]
Authentication Type (Autentiseringstyp) None (Inga)
APN Type (APN-typ) mms

(3)  Click on   OK   to save

(4)  Click again on   Menu ? New APN (or Meny ? Ny APN)   and this time enter the following fields:

Name (Namn) MMS
APN (Åtkomstnamn) [enter the APN for MMS value]
MMSC http://mmss/
MMS Proxy 193.209.134.132
MMS Port 8080
Authentication Type (Autentiseringstyp) none
APN Type (APN-type) mms

(5)  Click on   OK   to save

(6)  Then click on   Menu ? Save   (or Meny ? Spara)

(7)  Always remember to restart your phone after changing your settings, to make sure the phone connects correctly.

iPhone

(1)  First go to:
English   Settings ? General ? Network ­­ ? Cellular Data Network
Swedish   Inställningar ? Allmänt ? Nätverk (or Mobilnät) ­­ ? Mobilt datanätverk (or Datanätverk)

(2)  Enter the following fields in the section Cellular Data:

APN (Åtkomstnamn) [enter the APN for Cellular Data value]
Username (Användarnamn) [leave empty]
Password (Lösenord) [leave empty]

(3)  Enter the following fields in the section MMS:

APN (Åtkomstnamn) [enter the APN for MMS value]
Username (Användarnamn) [leave empty]
Password (Lösenord) [leave empty]
MMSC http://mmss/
MMS Proxy 193.209.134.132:8080
Max Message Size 307200
MMS UA Prof URL [leave empty]

(4)  Always remember to restart your phone after changing your settings, to make sure the phone connects correctly.
