Ralf Metzler New Assistant
Professor in Biophysics at Nordita
We welcome Ralf Metzler as Nordita's first assistant professor in biophysics. He was born in Neuenbürg (Württ.) in the Calw district in 1968, and pursued his studies at the University of Ulm where he obtained his Diplom and PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) under the supervision of Theo Nonnenmacher in the Mathematical Physics Department, working on fractional model equations for anomalous relaxation and diffusion processes. During his first postdoc with Joseph Klafter in Tel Aviv (1998-2000), he studied the stochastic foundations of fractional Fokker-Planck equations. As a visiting scientist with Peter Wolynes at the University of Illinois, he started to work on genetic switches. In August 2000, he went to MIT to investigate knotted polymers, DNA packaging and the DNA helix-coil transition with Mehran Kardar. Ralf will take up his position at Nordita on 1st April 2002.
